Build the short roll from the elbows
A short roll turns the free-throw line into a passing and scoring hub. Ramírez treats the ball handler's arrival at one elbow and the screener's arrival at the opposite elbow as a shared timing problem.

In this article
- Teach the handler to reach an elbow with control, using the screen only when it creates an advantage. A same-hand burst or change of hand can be selected from a coach's signal.
- The screener first creates separation from their defender. If the on-ball defender is set, make a solid screen and release; if the handler already has an edge, slip directly to the elbow.
- Work 2v0 for timing and the elbow-to-elbow pass. Then add a guided ball defender and finally 2v2, so the pair reads whether to screen or slip.
